Interns provide therapy under the close supervision of a fully licensed clinician as part of their required clinical training. While they are still in the process of developing their skills and gaining hands-on experience, they bring fresh perspectives, dedication, and evidence-based approaches to their work.

Because they are still in training, therapy with a clinical intern is offered at a discounted rate, making quality mental health care more accessible. Whether you’re navigating a major life transition, parenting challenges, or long-standing dynamics, this type of therapy is designed to support the whole family unit. We’ll work collaboratively to help each member feel heard and understood while building tools that promote connection, emotional safety, and healthy boundaries.

How it differs from Couples Therapy:
While couples therapy focuses specifically on the romantic relationship between two partners, family therapy includes two or more family members—such as parents and children, siblings, or extended relatives—and addresses relational dynamics within the broader family system. This is especially helpful when conflict, stress, or miscommunication is impacting multiple relationships within the home.

Coaching

Have you ever wanted someone to talk to and work with, but therapy wasn't a medical necessity? If therapy isn't right for you, then coaching may be an option. Coaching is not therapy, and if you have been a therapy client with us you cannot switch to coaching and vise versa. Coaching can be a combination of online course work, group coaching calls, or individual coaching calls.

Groups

Healing often involves connecting with others who share similar experiences or perspectives. Group settings can be a valuable alternative to one-on-one therapy, offering a more cost-effective option. Support groups are typically peer-led and have a more relaxed structure, focusing on shared experiences and mutual encouragement. Hi there, I’m Charnae and I am blessed to be in the field of therapy. There is a saying that goes “it takes a village to raise a child” but I also feel that it takes a village to maintain a stable life no matter the age. Life has so many challenges and no one should have to go through them and endure them alone.

I first started my path into therapy through gaining my bachelor’s degree in May 2020 from Oakwood University. I knew I had a passion for mental health and wanted to further my knowledge, so I decided to go back to school. I attended Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University and graduated in May of 2023 with my master’s degree.

As a degreed Master Social Worker who has worked in individual and family therapy, I would say my approach is open with compassion and warmth but straight forward with truth and reality based in modalities such as CBT, DBT, Mindfulness Cognitive therapy, and Person-Centered therapy. I am privileged to have experience working with different diagnosis, symptoms, and behaviors such as depression, anxiety, grief, anger, and trauma to name a few.

We all have a life, but the goal is to have a life worth living!

About Julie

I am a student intern from Walden University, and I joined Cherokee Rose Counseling because of my passion for supporting women through life’s transitions and challenges.

Before pursuing counseling, I was an educator for over 25 years. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Georgia and a Master’s in Education from the University of North Georgia. My extensive background in human development has equipped me to assist women with parenting support, empty-nesting adjustments, career and relationship dilemmas, and other natural—but often stressful—life transitions.

At Cherokee Rose, I bring expertise in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), a proven approach to managing many of the mental health challenges we face today. This strategy has been transformative in my own life and my family’s mental health journey, inspiring me to become a counselor to help others experience similar growth and healing.

When I’m not counseling (or studying counseling!), I’m a proud single mom of two grown sons and the owner of two awesome Labrador retrievers, Charlie and Jenny. I enjoy a variety of hobbies, especially those that let me connect with nature, like kayaking, camping, hiking, and gardening. On quieter days, you’ll find me reading, creating art, experimenting with sourdough, or playing cards.

I look forward to supporting you on your journey to growth and healing!
